To my personal opinion, it’s kind of mysterious and cabalistic that Donald Trump could possibly become a President, Justin Bieber is still an active singer, and Apple's Calendar app doesn't include a menu bar add-on. Fortunately, one of these controversies can be solved just like that.
Itsycal is a tiny calendar for your Mac’s menu bar. It adds a function that has been elsewhere but not on the Mac since day one, driving insane many Mac users for years.
Itsycal will display a classic, nicely designed monthly calendar, alongside with your events borrowed from the Mac Calendar app. Moreover, you can also create and delete (but not edit) events directly in the Itsycal app.

Functionality of this miniature, yet solid piece of software allows you to change the start day of the week; highlight weekends so you can see them right away; set a keyboard shortcut to run it; arrange calendar weeks according to ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD); switch months via a two-finger trackpad swipe left or right, etc.
In addition to all those goodies above, you can move Itsycal in the menu bar just like the built-in Apple menu extras by holding down the ⌘ key and dragging. But it actually works only if you’re on OS X 10.10 Yosemite. El Capitan, 10.11 version, is blocking this trick because of Apple’s security reasons. For now, at least.
